SEVERAL TIMES AS I WAS writing this book, my thoughts moved faster than my fingers, and as a result “hearth fire” very often came out as “heartfire.” I wonder, at times, if my subconscious was trying to tell me something.

At its core, hearthcraft is about honoring the home as a spiritual entity and a sacred place. The tips and techniques discussed in this book aren’t what make a hearth sacred; it’s how you live in a home that defines its sanctity, its ongoing life as a positive spiritual influence on those who live in it and visit it. In the end, your home-based spirituality is what you make of it.
