House Plant Magic

While there is not a lot for many of us to do in the garden or find in the wild in January, houseplants can become the focus for plant magic.

African Violet

(Saintpaulia ionantha)

African violets come in a wide variety of sizes, shapes, and colors. This species is the quintessential plant with rounded, dark green leaves that grow from a center crown. Stalks with clusters of purple flowers also grow from the center. African violets are a good choice for winter blooming; in fact, given the right conditions, they bloom well all year.

Closely associated with the home, African violets lighten the energy and invite blessings. Position one wherever you want to lift and move energy. One or two in a front window will draw abundance into your home. Place one with dark blue or purple flowers on your altar to raise the spiritual vibration of meditation or ritual. Use dried purple flowers in love charms and white flowers to attract love.

African violet is associated with the element water. Its astrological influence comes from Venus.
