Psychic Self-Defense Spread

On This Day

As a medium, Dion Fortune claimed she did not disturb the spirits of the dead by speaking with them. Rather, she channeled intelligence from a higher plane.

Dion Fortune, occultist and prolific author, was born on this day in 1890. Reportedly seeing visions as young as age four, she was a Golden Dawn member who then created her own order, the Society of the Inner Light. Her novels and textbooks remain popular to this day.

Summation of Spread

The Two of Swords represents the ability to bring one’s attention inward, therefore forming a circle of protection, while the Eight of Swords reflects a person who is so inwardly drawn that their life becomes restrictive.

In her famous book Psychic Self-Defense, Dion Fortune recounted how the warden at her college had conveyed a “psychic attack” on her. She reported he used yoga techniques and hypnotism, leaving her in a desperate emotional state for over three years.

Using Dion’s story for inspiration, this spread aims to repel others’ negativity and darkness so they do not damage the light you carry within. It’s also a useful spread for removing oneself from passive-aggressive relationships.
