Crepe Myrtle - The Trees

The Magic of Trees: A Guide to Their Sacred Wisdom & Metaphysical Properties - Tess Whitehurst 2017

Crepe Myrtle
The Trees

The delicate, lush appearance of the flowering crepe myrtle (Lagerstroemia) belies her heartiness and her penchant for dry, warm climates. This contrast is part of her charm: like a well-groomed southern belle sparkling with perfection even in the sweatiest and dustiest of scenes, the tree’s verdant leaves and fresh blooms unfailingly breathe balance into the austere desert landscapes she adorns.

Magical Uses

They may appear fragile upon close inspection, but in truth, few blossoms last longer than the crepe myrtle’s, regardless of the fact that they bloom in the hottest summer months of some of the warmest climates. As such, crepe myrtle’s magical gift is one of staying power: this includes literal health and longevity, as well as the longevity of relationships, business partnerships, organizations, and other such institutions. For physical longevity or longevity in any other area, plant crepe myrtle and enlist her help or create the following longevity charm:

Lovingly gather a crepe myrtle blossom. Tie it in a scrap of muslin along with a hematite, nine evergreen needles, and a cat’s naturally shed whisker. Anoint it with essential oil of tea tree. Hold it in your right palm and bathe it in bright sunlight as you say:

For timeless ages I’ll [we’ll/this will] joyfully stay

Nine times nine, forever and a day,

Happy, healthy, wealthy, strong

My [our/this] life’s span is vast and long.

Place your left hand over the charm and cup it in both hands. Bury it near a threshold that you regularly cross.

The crepe myrtle’s ability to thrive in otherwise parched climates is reminiscent of true, long-term romantic love. Plant crepe myrtle near your home to ensure your committed relationship stays fresh for the long haul. (Be aware that this will only work if the relationship is for your truest good. Otherwise, the presence of the tree may speed its dissolution.)
